Artist’s nearly 20-year career highlights cultural representation, artistic expertise, and lasting contribution to the industry
Los Angeles, CA — November 5, 2026 — CJ Jackson’s artistic journey from Toronto to Los Angeles embodies the experience of Caribbean creatives building sustained careers in the entertainment industry. Born in Canada to Jamaican parents from St. Andrew and St. Mary, the dancer, choreographer, and educator has spent nearly 20 years performing, competing, and teaching across Canada, the United States, and Asia while remaining intentional about celebrating Caribbean culture through movement.
From Toronto Training to International Stages
Jackson started formal training at age 12 in competitive studios and later completed the Commercial Dance Studies program at George Brown College. Early recognition included championships with Street Dance Canada, Star Beat, On The Floor, and Dance Starz, a Nuvo Dance Convention appearance, and a USA International Visa Program scholarship. He has performed around the United States, choreographed in Los Angeles, and taken on choreography and performance work in New Delhi, India, as well as the Caribbean. An interview on Bridge 99FM in Kingston, Jamaica and time spent in the country in 2023 with Megan Soo and E-Dee further connected him to the cultural sources that shaped his style.

As an all-style dancer who also specializes in dancehall, Jackson carries Jamaican heritage into every context. He has spoken about the importance of respecting old-school foundations while allowing free-form creativity to generate new movement—an ethos that defines his artistic approach.
Cultural Representation and Lasting Contribution
Jackson’s work consistently draws on dancehall traditions while operating fluently in commercial and all-style contexts. This foundation has supported his collaboration with Megan Soo, including prior success with “Michigesso” and current preparation for her new album tracks “Wake Me” and “Put Me on DND,” for which he serves as lead dancer and choreographer. Performances are planned across the United States, with future dates intended for the Caribbean and Asia. Throughout his career he has also judged competitions and taught students at multiple levels, using those platforms to share Caribbean energy, creativity, and technical standards with new audiences.
“My story is about carrying something forward,” Jackson says. “Caribbean culture has always influenced the wider dance world. Being able to share that influence as a performer, choreographer, and educator is the part of the work that feels most lasting. From Toronto to Los Angeles, the goal has stayed the same—celebrate the culture while building a career that contributes to the industry.”

An Artistic Journey with Enduring Impact
By documenting a full arc—from early training in Toronto through international performances and a current base in Los Angeles—Jackson’s career offers a clear example of artistic expertise paired with cultural representation. His ongoing projects continue to expand that contribution across multiple markets, reinforcing his place as a Caribbean creative whose work leaves a lasting mark on the dance industry.
