Writing the World With Kindness: How Mona Liza Santos Is Inspiring a New Generation of Readers

For Mona Liza Santos, storytelling began not in a publishing house, but at home. During the global pandemic in 2020, she wrote a simple poem for her son, Michael, as a way to comfort him during uncertain times. That heartfelt moment sparked a creative journey that would grow into more than 40 children’s books and a mission centered on emotional wellness, kindness, and self-worth.

Today, Mona Liza Santos is recognized as an award-winning Filipina-American children’s author and the founder of World Love Press, a purpose-driven publishing imprint dedicated to stories that help children feel seen, understood, and valued. Her work resonates with families, educators, and counselors who seek meaningful tools to support children navigating complex emotions in a rapidly changing world.

Stories Born From Real Life

Unlike traditional children’s literature rooted in fantasy, Santos focuses on what she calls “real magic”.  Everyday acts of kindness, courage and self-belief. Her books explore emotional literacy, encouraging children to understand feelings such as anxiety, self-doubt, and belonging. This grounded approach has led therapists and educators to use her stories as practical resources for supporting young readers.

Her journey is deeply personal. What began as “love letters” to her son quickly evolved into a body of work that reflects both motherhood and lived experience. The authenticity of her voice has become a defining element of her storytelling.

A Global Perspective

Having traveled to more than 70 countries, Santos brings a multicultural lens to her writing. Her experiences as a global traveler shape narratives that celebrate diversity and universal belonging. Children from different backgrounds find representation in her stories, while themes of empathy and inclusion remain central.

This global outlook also influences initiatives like Heritage and Heart Day, which encourages individuals to embrace their cultural identity while fostering connection across communities. Through such efforts, Santos continues to bridge storytelling with advocacy.

Championing Kindness and Emotional Wellness

Beyond her books, Santos founded National Intentional Kindness Day, officially recognized by proclamation, to promote compassion and empathy. She also created Heritage and Heart Day, reinforcing her commitment to inclusivity and cultural pride.

Her work extends into developing Kindness and Heritage Toolkits designed to help schools and families nurture emotional literacy. These initiatives align with her broader mission: encouraging children to believe they matter and that their individuality is something to celebrate.

Recognition and Impact

Santos’ contributions have earned significant recognition, including the Mom’s Choice Awards® Gold Award and the Dangal ng Pilipino Founders Citation Award. She has also been honoured by community leaders in National City, California, in March 2026 for her impact on youth emotional wellness and advocacy for kindness.

Her work has been featured in major media outlets such as the San Diego Union-Tribune, BookTrib, and Bold Journey, reflecting growing recognition of her influence in children’s literature and emotional education.

A Mission That Continues To Grow

Through World Love Press and her expanding catalogue of books, Mona Liza Santos continues to create stories that emphasize empathy, representation, and emotional wellness. Her message remains simple yet powerful: every child deserves to feel valued, understood, and proud of who they are.

By blending her experiences as a mother, traveler, and advocate, Santos is shaping a new kind of children’s storytelling. One where kindness becomes the real magic and self-worth is the greatest lesson.
